I've been workin' like a dog.

A few months ago, my office moved to a different part of the building that I work in. We have been short handed and super busy, but I finally found some time to decorate my space. I wanted it to remind me of what matters in life, so when I get overwhelmed or stressed, I could look at it for positive vibes.

All of the pictures I had printed were via my Pinterest and Instagram.

I found this Lucky Bamboo plant at Produce Junction for $3 and the pictures frames at Goodwill for $0.50 each.

I purchased this inspirational notepad/mousepad from Target on sale.

I bought these colorful organizers in the $1 section at Target-- what a steal!

Here is my space! How do you decorate your space, whether at work, school, or home? I want to see! Please leave pictures or comments below how you have turned your space into your happy place!

just married (semi) DIY

This summer, one of my oldest friend's Kelly got married. I was in a store called Paper Source in Philadelphia on Walnut Street when I saw a "Just Married" sign that you could make. It was perfect and so easy to make!

 1. Tools you need
        a. Paper Source "Just Married" kit
        b. Scissors
        c. Magnet w/e adhesive

 2. The kit came with a beautiful white ribbon so that you could string the banner together. I wanted to make the letters for the Bride & Groom's car, so I a roll of magnet with the adhesive on the back (I am not sure of the proper term if there is one) and put a few pieces of the black circle/flower looking base piece.

3. Next, you peel off the stickers provided in the pack and smooth them onto the black base.

Here is the finished product!

This store was really awesome to walk around in and I strongly encourage you to check it out online!

Goodbye, old sport.

I have been super busy this summer. It is really flying by! I cannot believe that it is the middle of August! With that said, I have been lagging on the things I have been up to, so I will be doing a series of posts about my summer.

In the beginning of the summer, one of my best friends Jordyn and her soul mate Gena had a going away party. The two love birds moved to Arizona due to an AMAZING opportunity Gena landed which also lead Jordyn to a wonderful new career path. The two decided to have a Great Gatsby themed party at their friend's studio.

Jordyn and I Sailor Moon style.

The love birds, Gena and Jordyn.

Bobby, Jordyn's gracious friend that hosted the party and made those awesome hair pieces!

Here are some behind the scene shots:

We miss you Jordyn & Gena! Good luck to you both and all your endeavors!

Peace, love, & sandy feet.

I cannot believe that it is the middle of July already. It seems like the summer is really flying by. I really love any place by the water. It is so soothing and peaceful. Jared and I plan on moving somewhere by the water in a few years which makes me really excited. I mean, who doesn't want to live a bike ride away from the beach? Any chance I get, I make a day trip. Here are a few pictures of my beach adventures.

Coast to Coast Challange

Hello friends!

This year I decided to give myself a challenge, which was to run across the United States of America. Okay, not LITERALLY run, but I did create a "route" to run across America. The premiss is to log my miles, whether it be running, swimming, biking-- anything that I can track miles. I set destinations (goals) of places I would stop. Here is the itinerary:

Coast to Coast challenge

Start: Santa Cruz, CA
End: Sea Isle City, NJ

·      Santa Cruz, CA to Las Vegas, NV
o  511 miles
·      Las Vegas, NV to Grand Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon Village, AZ
o  324 miles
·      Grand Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon Village, AZ to Santa Fe, NM
o  478 miles
·      Santa Fe, NM to Amarillo, TX
o  285 miles
·      Amarillo, TX to Oklahoma City, OK
o  262 miles
·      Oklahoma City, OK to St. Lois, Missouri
o  526 miles
·      St. Lois, Missouri to Mt. Vernon, IN
o  150 miles
·      Mt. Vernon, IN to Charleston, WV
o  389 miles
·      Charleston, WV to Washington, DC
o  335 miles
·      Washington, DC to Philadelphia, PA
o  137 miles
·      Philadelphia, PA to Sea Isle City, NJ
o  66 miles

Total: 3463 miles

I had not tallied up my miles until today and I realized I have already surpassed my first location! Since January, I have logged 557.35 miles! Technically I am 46.35 miles away from my first stop, Las Vegas Nevada. A few fun facts about Las Vegas:
• The city of Las Vegas celebrated its 100th birthday on May 15, 2005. The event celebrated the May 15, 1905 land auction when 110 acres of land in downtown Las Vegas were auctioned off.
• A 1910 law made it illegal to gamble in Las Vegas. The Nevada Legislature later approved a legalized gambling bill in 1931.
• The first hotel and casino to open in Las Vegas was the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino in 1906.
• In 1957, topless showgirls debuted on the Las Vegas Strip in “Minsky’s Follies” at the Dunes.
• The famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign was created in 1959 by Betty Willis.
• The famous Las Vegas strip is for the most part, not within the city limits of Las Vegas. The majority of the strip is located within Clark County.

I have not logged any miles in June-- yikers! I have to get on that!

Happy Father's Day!

She was an American Girl.

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday! I had a wonderful time at my friend's BBQ. I decided to heck with it and that I would wear my American Flag shorts. Thank goodness I did because it got hot out there!

I did many things such as hulahoop, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for the first time, and learned that people that drank Corona originally put a lime slice on the top of their bottle to keep the flies out of their beer!

As you can see, I had some awesome American Flag peace sign sunglasses to pull the outfit together. I thought, how cool would it be to make EVERYONE wear them? My friend Stacy agreed and made everyone wear them, which turned out to be a great way to get pictures of everyone at the party!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

I am hoping everyone is taking part of fun Memorial Day festivities this weekend! It is oddly cold in Philly, but a lot of people still went down the Shore. I wish it were me, sigh. I will however be going to my dear friend Stacy's house for a little BBQ'n, music, and good conversation. It will be 70*F tomorrow, so I am hoping to be able to bust out these bad boys...

What are your plans for the holiday? Please enjoy it and be safe!

Dip Dye

How do you all feel about the dip dye trend going on? I made my dip dye shorts two summers ago when I saw a DIY on a fellow bloggers post. They are fairly easy to make.

Here is how I styled them on a night on the town (photo courtesy of Fame Lust

A lot of retail chains out there are selling dip dye items fairly cheap, but if you love being creative and want to make your own custom pair, check out this video I found on You Tube:

If you make something using the dip dye technique, upload it or send me a picture at outskirtsofthecity@gmail.com!

Clutter, clutter, clutter!

If you had read my last post (or two?) you know that my Mom, Aunts, and I had gone through my grandmother's house to clean it out before they put it up for sale. There was so much stuff, you could not imagine. Right then and there I thought, I will NEVER make my family have to go through a whole bunch of CRAP when I am gone. Don't get me wrong, there were some good finds and great memories, but there was also a lot of tension and a few arguments.

I also feel that your home is a reflection of how you feel and how your life is going at the time. I think that my house is showing EXACTLY how I feel-- A MESS! Ever since I have graduated school, I feel like I have been in a constant struggle to find myself; who I am, what I want to do, my aspirations, my dreams. As of right now, I feel like I am in a fog and I can not see what I want. With that and the major clean out at my grandmothers, I have decided to let go and to clean out the house!

Here are a few examples of what we have going on:

Holy crap right!? All this stuff is a mix of Jared's grandmother's items and home improvements/things we have tried for the house that did not quite work out. Here is my plan:

1. Separate things in the basement we are going to keep, throw away, or sell. (Are you visualizing the girls in Sex and the City with their post-its?)

2. Go through room by room and do the same type of sorting as the basement.

3. Have a yard sale!

4. Use the money from the yard sale to better organize the left overs (tubs, shelves).

5. Sit back, relax, and enjoy my new organized home!

Look out for more posts as I de-cluttrer my space! I will live and learn, then hopefully give you great ideas and tips to de-clutter your home!

Some nights I always win.

Well, it is the day after one of my favorite award shows... THE GRAMMYS! I had to flip back and forth between that and The Walking Dead, so I missed a few performances, but I did get to watch the whole E! Red Carpet pre-Grammys show. Without further adieu, these are my top four favorite looks of the night:

My number one goes to Rhianna. I absolutely LOVE this dress. I think the color is great and it gives just enough away, but not too much. I think her makeup and hair look great as well, very polished and romantic.

Kelly Roland is my number two choice. Again, giving some away but not all of it. I think that the cut out pattern is very cool and interesting. I feel like this is dress is very different and bold but without looking COOCOO (sorry Florence, I get that you were trying to be different, but you looked like a T-REX)

My number three is Natasha Bendingfield. I don't know why, but I LOVE that gold belt over the dress. Stunning.

My number four, Katy Perry, said she was going for Pricilla Presley and I think she nailed it! I think she looked beautiful and this dress color is to die for. I love the detailing at the top. I think the Gucci dress looked a little better on the model at the Gucci Resort fashion show, but I guess it is hard to cover up those goodies, huh Katy?

And there you have it.. my top four, because really I did not even like 5 dresses at the Grammys.  :|

Oh, and a HUGE congratulations to the boys of Fun. for Best New Artist and Song of the Year! I remember seeing you boys when you first toured with Jack's Mannequin. You were awesome then and awesome now! Congratulations again, you totally deserve it!
